All dogs that live in Whistler must possess and wear a valid dog license. Licenses are issued annually and are available for sale at the RMOW Municipal Hall or at the Whistler Animal Shelter – Whistler Animals Galore (WAG).
Visitors to Whistler should ensure that their dog is wearing a valid license from the community in which they permanently reside.
Dog licenses can also be renewed online via the Resort Municipality of Whistler's (RMOW) Online Dog License Renewal Service. This secure website allows you to renew your Whistler dog license online by credit card.
Whistler also has a leash law. This is both for your dog's protection, and to protect wildlife, other people, and other pets. Off-leash dogs may be seized and impounded (fines will apply), except in designated off-leash parks and at off-leash beaches.
Having your pet on a leash protects it, other pets, and people from injury, and limits your pet's exposure to accidents and disease. A leashed pet cannot wander off, dart in front of a moving vehicle, chase your neighbour's cat or jump on a child, nor can it eat something that will make it sick. For your peace of mind, and the protection of your beloved pet, respect the leash law in Whistler.
Visit www.whistler.ca/dogs for more information and for the location of off-leash parks and beaches. |

| Next budget open house on April 17 |
|
The RMOW will be hosting its next budget open house on April 17 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Millennium Place. Residents are invited to attend and participate in the discussions. Presentations will surround the RMOW’s financial planning process, project priorities for 2012, and other spending decisions.
On March 12, the RMOW Finance and Audit Committee invited community members and business owners to attend an open house covering the municipality’s 2012 budget and financial planning process.
The open house included presentations by Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden, council members, and RMOW staff. Attendees had opportunities to review budget information with staff and council, participate in small table discussions about key budget decisions, and ask questions.
If you missed the open house, videos from the event including Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden, Councillor Jack Crompton and Ken Roggeman, Director, Finance and Fiscal Planning are now posted to www.whistler.ca/budget.
Feedback from the March 12 budget open house and budget@whistler.ca indicates that the Council Action Plan and the 2012 Budget are on the right track.
The 2012 budget process is focusing on two key priorities identified in the Council Action Plan: Fiscal Responsibility and Engagement & Accountability.
Feedback from community members has been reviewed by the Finance and Audit Committee. Thus far, the comments, questions and ideas have been mainly focused on issues that include: quarterly reporting, a zero percent tax increase, continued progress towards sustainability, and the formation of the RMI Oversight Committee.
The 2012 budget process will set the stage for a new, more robust annual financial planning process moving forward.

On May 5, 2012, the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) will be hosting the community’s annual Pitch In Day.
Since 1989, volunteers in the community have been working together throughout the valley picking up roadside litter on Pitch In Day. In 2011, the Pitch In Day groups collected 1.4 tonnes of garbage from Whistler's roadsides.
The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) Board has announced that they will participate in National Pitch In Week from April 23-30, 2012 in the SLRD. Due to the heavy snow accumulation in March, Whistler will push its Pitch In Day by one week and hold it on May 5.
Pitch in Day has grown since its early days, and now community groups, sports associations, neighbours, and residents take part in the annual event to clean up Whistler’s roadsides and raise awareness about the amount of litter deposited in our community.
"Join us on May 5 and help make this the best Pitch In Day ever,” says Andrew Finnerty, Pitch In Day coordinator for the RMOW. “Call to find out which groups will be in your neighbourhood or to find out how your organization can get involved.”
For more information, contact Andrew Finnerty at 604-935-8331.

| RMOW to hold public hearing |

The RMOW will hold a public hearing
on April 17, 2012 at 6 p.m. during the regularly scheduled council meeting to address changes to the Zoning Amendment Bylaw (Gross Floor Area Exclusion Amendments) No. 1992, 2012. The bylaw proposes changes to the definitions of gross floor area, crawl spaces and void spaces resulting from the work of the council-appointed Illegal Spaces Task Force. The Task Force was established on December 20, 2011 to consider how to address illegal space that has been reported to have been constructed in single family homes throughout the municipality.
This public hearing on April 17 is part of the public engagement process which began on March 2 with an open house to obtain feedback on the proposed changes to residential regulations. More than 100 people attended the open house and the RMOW received feedback from approximately 40 respondents online.
The Zoning Amendment Bylaw (Gross Floor Area Exclusion Amendments) No. 1992, 2012 was given first and second readings at the April 3 council meeting. If the bylaw is amended, changes will also be required for the Official Community Plan. The Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw (Regional Context Statement) No. 1993, 2012 will also be discussed at the public hearing.
During the public hearing, members of the public will be invited to make representations to council or present written submissions regarding the bylaw amendments.
Public hearings allow interested parties and any other persons who may be affected by the result of an issue to have the opportunity to make submissions regarding a matter under a municipal bylaw.

| Mountain Square parkade waterproofing project 2012 |
The Mountain Square parkade waterproofing project, which consists of repairs to the roof of the parkade under Mountain Square, Brandywine Alley, and the Stroll in between, will begin April 23, 2012, following the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival.
This work is necessary to protect the parkade structure from further damage caused by water infiltration. This will involve removal of the paving, planters, stairs and landings that sit on the parkade roof, removal of the old roof membrane, repairs to damaged concrete, installation of a new waterproof membrane, as well as replacement of the planters and stairs, and landscaping.
Mountain Square and the surrounding properties and businesses will be open to pedestrians for the duration of the project.
Construction is scheduled to begin on April 23, 2012, following the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival and will continue until the end of June. Landscaping is scheduled for September 4 to 14, 2012.

| RMOW to sign 2012 agreements |
|
On April 3, 2012, Whistler council authorized the signing of 2012 fee for service agreements with Whistler Animals Galore, Whistler Arts Council, Whistler Museum and Archives, and the Whistler Chamber of Commerce. The total amount, which will be awarded through the fee for service agreements for the 2012 calendar year, is $856,800.
The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) provides financial assistance on an annual basis to not-for-profit community organizations and societies for services which they provide and are aligned with the priorities outlined in Whistler2020, Whistler’s shared community vision and plan.
Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden said, “The fee for service agreements represent an important contribution by the RMOW to well-rounded and efficient service delivery in our community. Fee for service applications are assessed according to the key strategies outlined in our shared community vision. Once again, I would like to commend Whistler Animals Galore, the Whistler Arts Council, Whistler Museum and Archives Society, and the Whistler Chamber of Commerce on their thorough applications and the work that they do on behalf of our community.
“This year’s total contributions are the same as last year’s. They are within budget and support council’s ‘zero and zero’ approach to the 2012 budget and our commitment to no property tax or utility fee increases this year.”
